I consider myself humbly fortunate to have been added as a member of Prototype‘s new core development team. My first patch: optimizing getElementsByClassName
. Browsers with XPath support get an eightfold performance gain; others get a modest gain of 50–100%.

Andrew,
Congratulations on being “accepted” on the Prototype Development Team.
I have a question for you. Justin Palmer mentioned on his blog that others that would like to help out Prototype, should “sign up” to help work on the documenation effort. Do you know anything about this “effort”? I would LOVE to help out anyway I can, with making Prototype the best it can be. I have learned so much about Javascript programming from studying code from Prototype and others (Dean Edwards, Justin, Dann Webb, YOU, and others).
Thanks so much for your hard work.
Scott, send me an e-mail reminder (click on my name over on the right) and I’ll make sure to keep you updated on the documentation efforts. Right now we’re still setting up the infrastructure, but once things are ready I’m sure we’ll welcome all the help we can get. Luckily, there seems to be no shortage of enthusiastic and generous people like you to help out.
Congratulations !
Cool patch :) Who’s in the team… can we have names named?
@Les: Right it’s Sam Stephenson (of course), Thomas Fuchs, Justin Palmer, Dan Webb, Scott Raymond, Seth Dillingham, and myself. This is all unofficial until 1.5.0 goes final, and right now we’re just playing it by ear, so until there’s an official announcement my words should be regarded as the unreliable ramblings of a drunkard.
Andrew,
Congratulations! Can’t wait to see what comes out in 1.5.0… Looking forward to it!
