After nearly two years of complications from thyroid cancer, Roger Ebert will soon resume writing movie reviews on a regular basis. Ebert’s one of my favorite living writers — he articulates his love of movies so well that I enjoy reading even those reviews I disagree with. I can’t wait until he’s back on the job.

That’s awesome. I try to make a point not to read reviews until after I’ve seen a film, but when I do, I nearly always go to Ebert first, for that same reasons that you mention here.
Who else do you like for reviews? I’ve never read his stuff but have usually liked the LA Times’ Kenneth Turan doing reviews on the radio for All Things Considered.

Ebert’s my only go-to guy. But I’ll usually skim Rotten Tomatoes or Metacritic and see what grabs me.
(I tend to read reviews after I’ve seen the movie; the most I’ll do beforehand is check the freshness rating.)
