Video: Enchantment Under The Sea Dance Revisited
Wow, I wish this had been my idea. There are a couple places where things don't line up very well, but Gale & Zemeckis seemed focused on preserving the space-time continuum.

These days I write PHP code infrequently enough that my JavaScript knowledge is starting to get in the way. I learned PHP years before I ever touched JavaScript, but the syntaxes are similar enough that I keep trying to use the var keyword or assign functions to variables. (Even though I’ll probably never start a major project in PHP ever again, I enjoy using the language — it was my first real programming language, and without it I probably wouldn’t be doing what I do today.)
Dead Frog interviews Louis C.K. about HBO’s “Lucky Louie.” Todd Jackson is a great interviewer and has a perspective on comedy that makes his blog interesting.

How the MySpace SWF hack worked. Yes, IE will recognize the string “javascript:” even if you put a line break in the middle. Community creators: secure your code, for Christ’s sake.

Blanks on a Blank: a filmmaking challenge inspired by Snakes on a Plane. “When you sign up a team to participate in the challenge, our random generator will provide you with an animal and a vehicle. You’ve then got until August 3rd to completely finish a 2-5 minute original disaster movie that shows us all about how bad things can get when your BLANKS somehow make their way onto your BLANK.” I goddamned love Austin.

Travis Ruse is crazy-good at taking pictures of the NYC Subway. This isn’t news, but after viewing this photo I think it bears repeating.

More than you ever wanted to know about $$ and XPath
I took great interest in Sylvain Zimmer’s optimized version of Prototype’s $$ function, since I’ve been working on something very similar recently. Sylvain’s version uses more workmanlike string parsing; mine uses XPath. Each approach has its strengths and weaknesses.
PixelGroovy. i use this. I take back what I said before: the next time someone asks me what “Web 2.0″ means, I’ll say, “It’s about trying to become the Digg of a specific niche of an already-insular community.”

I know I am probably preaching to the choir here, but maybe, just maybe, if we sing loud enough, the branding firms that make these decisions will hear our song of reason and make the right decision. If we are going to redesign a classic logo (or design a new one for that matter), let’s stand up for good design and actually do something innovative instead of relying on bevels and drop shadows applied to someone else’s genius.
